Active ingredients

Formula II disinfectant is a synergistic blend of several actives.  The actives in the synergistic blend are:

Dodecylamine sulphamate:

A powerful salt developed from Dodecyl amine and Sulphamic acid.  The salt has a high tolerance to hard water and soilage.  The molecule is a highly effective biocide presenting mycobactericidal (TB), Gram-negative and Gram-positive bactericidal, fungicidal, sporicidal and virucidal qualities.

Polymeric (Hexamethylene) Biguanide Hydrochloride:

A good Gram-positive biocide with variable activity also a virucide.  Excellent skin disinfectant.  A good fungicide.

Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride:

Powerful quaternary compounds with both Gram-positive and Gram-negative activity (better on Gram-positive), virucidal activity and tuberculocidal activity at low dilutions.  Bacteriostatic in high dilutions and a very high tolerance to both hard water and organic silage when in combination with dodecylamine sulphamate.

Nonyl Phenyl-w-Hydroxy-Poly (Oxythylene) (NP9):

The activity of NP9 is to act first to attack cell walls as a penetrative agent allowing the combinations of disinfectants to enter the cortex of the cell and destroy it.  The secondary activity is as a surface-active agent or detergent that loosens organic material into suspension in water.

Ethanol (DN)

To promote cell wall activity, in particular with certain viral groups.

Also, present EDTA Sequestrant

To assist in the breaking down of hard water.

Description

It is well known that the long chain quaternary compounds which possess the greatest anti-bacterial activity are those with at least one radical, with a C8 to C18 length carbon chain.

It is also known that adsorption plays an important role due into the activity of disinfectant formulations.

TriGENE II disinfectant is highly surface active and therefore readily absorbed.  Because of the large specific surface of particulate micro-organisms, the first stage of germicidal activity begins with the absorption of the disinfectant by the microbial cell.  It has been observed that such absorption increased the permeability of the cell membrane; leading to ultimate rupture and the decrease of lysine and glutamic acid.

The inclusion of Dodecylamine sulphamate in the formulation stimulates the contraction of the cytoplasm followed by complete stripping of the cell wall.  A second mode of action is that cell death results from inactivation of energy producing enzymes such as those concerned with glucose, succinate and pyruvate oxidase systems.  As with gluteraldehyde and similar toxic substances the formulation is highly effective being so demonstrated in biocidal tests.

TriGENE II is not QACs

The disinfectants may be mistaken for quaternary ammonium compounds, but they are very different.

TriGENE II is polymeric; it has a de-localised charge when protonated, whereas QACs have a charge localised on the nitrogen atom.  This explains why TriGENE II has moderate substantively to surfaces and high tolerance to soils – QACs do not.

TriGENE II cannot be considered as having single component actives.

Non-Viability of QAC in Organic Soils and against Gram-negative Bacteria

It is well known that normal QAC solutions can become contaminated easily by Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas spp.

Severe limitations in their use have also been observed because of their inability to penetrate organic debris on inanimate surfaces and their incompatibility with anionic agents, calcium, magnesium and iron in hard water and bio-burden.

TriGENE II actives suffer none of these problems.

A New Class Composition

TriGENE II contains a new class of composition.  It is not a halogen complex as commonly known and described.  Halogens are not detected using the well-known starch iodine tests.  The complex will not lose halogen even when boiled in an aqueous solution or on extraction with organic solvents.

The akylamine salts – dodecyl amine and Sulphamic acid are reacted in combination with a non-ionic surface-active agent to produce part of the TriGENE II formulation.  The non-ionic surface-active agent, the alkyl and aryl-alkyl modified amine salt compound and the halogen enter into a molecular structure resulting in a stable complex.

This complex has proved, in combination with other TriGENE II actives, to be a highly efficient and safe disinfectant.

Directions for use

For instrument disinfection:

Prepare disinfectant by diluting 1:10 with water (10ml in 100ml). Ensure instrument contact time of 30 minutes. Discard diluted disinfectant after 21 days.

Rinsing instructions:  Rinse instruments thoroughly in water using aseptic techniques.

For general disinfection and cleaning:

Prepare disinfectant by diluting 1:100 with water (10ml in 1L). Diluted disinfectant can be used in trigger sprays on all hard surfaces, including glass.

For slightly soiled and dirty conditions:

Prepare disinfectant by dilution 1:50 with water (20ml in 1L).

For use in presence of blood and other organic matter:

Prepare disinfectant by diluting as per instrumentation disinfection. Suitable for use in washrooms and food preparation areas. All surface to be dried before using.

Precautions

STORAGE

Store undiluted product below 30oC.  Keep lid tightly closed and store in a dry place after opening.

SAFETY DIRECTIONS

Corrosive (wear eye protection).  Avoid contact with eyes.  Avoid contact with skin.

FIRST AID

If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons Information Centre on 0800 764 766.  If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting.  Give a glass of water.  If skin contact occurs, remove clothing and wash skin thoroughly.  If in eyes, hold eyes open, flood with water for at least 15 minutes and see a doctor.

Do not mix with other chemicals.

SteriGENE® is a mixture of halogenated tertiary amine and organic salts <15%, polymeric biguanide hydrochloride surface active agents’ corrosion inhibitor, chelating agents, stabilising agents and demineralised water. SteriGENE® is free of aldehydes, chlorine and phenols and is concentrated for on-site dilution. SteriGENE is also effective against Kauri die back disease, PSA in kiwi fruit, Foot and mouth disease, M.Bovis, Parvo and feline calicivirus.

Action:

Because of the large relative surface area of particulate micro-organisms, the first stage of germicidal activity probably begins with the absorption of the disinfectant by the microbial cell. It has been observed that such absorption increased the permeability of the cell membrane; leading to rupture of the cell and the decrease of lysine and glutamic acid. The inclusion of dodecylamine and sulfamic acid in the formulation appears to stimulate the contraction of cytoplasm followed by complete stripping of the cell wall. A second mode of action proposed is that cell death results from inactivation of energy-producing enzymes such as those concerned with glucose, succinate and pyruvate oxidase systems. As with glutaraldehyde and similar toxic substances, the exact mode has not been fully elucidated. However, using standard biocidal tests, this formulation has been shown to be highly effective. SteriGENE® works up to 70% quicker than conventional high level disinfectants with the inclusion of micro-emulsion particles (nano particles) that enable the active ingredient molecules in the product to be carried rapidly through cell walls of micro-organisms.

Nano particles can enter areas like microscopic fissures and crevices in hard surfaces which up to now have not been penetrable by conventional carrier systems. Disinfectant actives are able to spread across a complete surface area, to perform a far more thorough anti pathogenic cleansing task than was previously possible.

Indications:

Effective against Bacteria, viruses and fungi, including; Coronavirus (SARS, COVID-19), Listera monocytogenes, Salmonella spp., Escherichia spp., Leptospira spp., Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas spp., Mycobacterium fortuitum, Bacillus spp., Clostridium spp., Shigella spp., Klebsiella spp., Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Enterobacter aerogenes, Serratia spp., Bordetella bronchiseptica, Campylobacter spp., Legionella spp., Microsporum spp., Candida albicans, Trichophyton spp., Penicillin spp., Aspergillus niger, and Saccharomyces cervisiae. It is also effective against the veral infections: O rotavirus, hepatitis A and B, herpes, HIV, poliomyelitis, influenza, parvo, Newcastle disease, FeIV, FIP, FIV. Product has been tested and approved by MAF.

For general disinfection spray on surfaces and wipe. For disinfection of shoes for Kauri Die back disease, scrape majority of soiling off shoes and spray soles and sides of shoes with SteriGENE. May be used on most hard surfaces including food preparation areas. Avoid extended contact with polished wood.
